Curtin Growth Program helps Perth engineering company gain momentum BY Richard Thorning

“It is no secret that running your business is hard work”, says Mark Keenan, co-owner of Perth based company Momentum Engineering.

“We recently faced a number of challenges. Our business was reaching a low point and the GFC had taken a significant toll on us. We had high overheads, including expensive but important St Georges Terrace office space, combining with a significant decline in work.”

“The combination of these was squeezing our viability as a business and at the time prospects were few and far between.”

“We made decisions at the time that ultimately helped us stay the course but at the time we really did not know whether they would be enough.”

One of those decisions was to join the Curtin Growth Program.

“Doing the Curtin Growth program helped significantly – both in a personal and business sense. The course covers a multitude of topics. All the things that are important in business but which I think, quite often, people who start companies have no training and have not developed skills in.”

“Momentum Engineering is now more than twice the size we were when I started the course and we are undertaking key projects and services and planning for an exciting future.”

“In seven years since we started Momentum Engineering there are many lessons I have learned. If there is a key thought I could share, it is – always keep sight of the important things in life; family, friends, yourself; and always remember that these are just as important to those people you are working with and those you are working for.”

The Curtin Growth program runs over 16 months and consists of 16 full day workshops and one-on-one support from an experienced mentor. Applications are now open for our final intake for this year, which starts on November 1.
